Bandai Namco announces ‘Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters’ for 2026 release

Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. announced Wednesday that the long-running anime soccer saga will return to consoles and PC later this year with “Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters.”

The title, developed by TAMSOFT CORPORATION, marks the franchise’s first major entry in more than six years. Billed as “Super Action Soccer,” the sequel looks to move beyond traditional sports simulation by treating soccer matches as high-stakes battles where players utilize superhuman abilities.

According to the publisher, “World Fighters” will be the most expansive entry in the series to date. The game is set to feature 22 national teams, more than 110 playable characters, and a library of more than 150 unique special moves. These “super moves” will apply to all facets of the game, including passing, dribbling, and tackling.

The gameplay introduces a revamped tactical system for goal-scoring opportunities. This new mechanic pits goalkeepers directly against shooters, allowing both sides to trigger cinematic counters and signature blocks seen in the original manga and anime.

Players can also engage in a custom story mode, creating their own character to join Tsubasa on a quest for a world championship. The journey emphasizes building internal team friendships and navigating rivalries on the pitch.

To maintain the series’ signature energy, Tadayoshi Makino returns as the sound composer. The upcoming title will feature more than 80 new background music tracks.

“Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters” is scheduled to launch later in 2026 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Additional information is available at the game’s official website: www.bandainamcoent.com/games/captain-tsubasa-2-world-fighters.
