Life is Unfair Again: ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival Sets April Premiere on Hulu

The family that defined a generation of functional dysfunction is officially returning to the airwaves.

Hulu announced Monday that the long-rumored revival of the landmark sitcom, titled “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,” will premiere April 10, 2026. The four-episode limited series will be available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., with a simultaneous international release on Disney+.

Accompanying the date announcement, the streamer released a first-look teaser that confirms the return of the series’ core icons: Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, and Jane Kaczmarek.

A Decade of Silence Broken

The revival catches up with the Wilkerson family years after the original series finale. According to the official synopsis, Malcolm (Muniz) has spent the last decade shielding himself and his daughter from his chaotic family. However, that self-imposed exile ends when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th anniversary party.

The Cast: Returning Legends and New Faces

Fans of the original series, which ran for seven seasons on Fox, will see several familiar faces. Along with the central trio, Christopher Kennedy Masterson (Francis), Justin Berfield (Reese), and Emy Coligado (Piama) are all confirmed to return.

The revival also introduces a new generation of “middle” children:

  • Keeley Karsten stars as Leah, Malcolm’s daughter.
  • Vaughan Murrae joins as Kelly, the youngest sibling in the Wilkerson clan.
  • Kiana Madeira will play Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend.
  • Caleb Ellsworth-Clark steps into the role of Dewey.

Behind the Camera

The revival is in experienced hands. Original series creator Linwood Boomer returns as writer and executive producer. Bryan Cranston pulls double duty, serving as an executive producer alongside Gail Berman and Arnon Milchan.

In a move that promises to preserve the show’s signature visual franticness, Ken Kwapis, who directed the original pilot and many of its most acclaimed episodes, will direct all four installments of the limited series.

For those looking to catch up before the April premiere, all seven seasons of the original run remain available for streaming on Hulu.
