So the Playstation State of Play just aired and these are the trailers that caught my attention the most. I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these games.
As 2025 winds down, the gaming landscape has been nothing short of a movie. From the snowy peaks of Ezo to the sun-drenched shores of Honolulu, the year delivered titles that didn’t just meet the hype—they completely shifted the culture.
As the owner of Remixco.com, I’ve spent the last 12 months locked in, testing the limits of my consoles and my sleep schedule. Whether you’re a fan of high-stakes swordplay or anime-inspired sports drama, this year’s lineup had something valid for everyone.
Here are my top five games of 2025.
5. Monster Hunter Wilds
Capcom really went all out with this one. Monster Hunter Wilds had me hooked for a minute, mostly because they finally nailed the balance between a deep story and the classic hunting loop. The weather systems changing the ecosystem mid-hunt is a game-changer. Whether I was tracking an apex predator through a sandstorm or just vibing with my Seikret mount, the immersion was unmatched.
4. Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars
For the old-school heads, this one was a massive win. I’ve loved the original games since back in the day, but Konami actually did the work on these enhancements. The HD backgrounds and 3D world map effects breathe new life into the classics without losing that retro soul. The gameplay tweaks, like auto-save and fast-forwarding through battles, make the grind feel way more modern and accessible.
3. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Only the RGG Studio could take Goro Majima, give him amnesia, turn him into a pirate, and make it work. The gameplay is solid, blending the classic brawler energy with some wild ship-to-ship combat. It feels like a proper side story—it’s not trying to be a massive mainline entry, but the humor and the Hawaii setting make it a mandatory play for the fans.
2. INAZUMA ELEVEN: Victory Road
I wasn’t sure how an anime RPG mixed with soccer—excuse me, futbol—would hit, but Victory Road is a whole vibe. Level-5 really understood the assignment here. Collecting over 5,000 players and building a squad while navigating a heavy-hitting anime story is surprisingly addictive. It’s a “just one more match” type of game that kept me coming back.
1. Ghost of Yōtei
If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a proper samurai epic. Ghost of Yōtei is, quite simply, fire. Taking place 300 years after the original, the storytelling is top-tier, following Atsu’s revenge tour through the rugged wilderness of Mount Yōtei. The combat is incredibly crisp, making every parry and strike feel earned. It’s an absolute banger that proves Sucker Punch still has the midas touch when it comes to feudal Japan.
Honorable Mentions
The list was tight this year, and a few other titles definitely deserved their flowers. Rematch brought some heavy competition to the multiplayer scene, while Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was a surprisingly polished speedster with some wild crossover characters. Finally, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion delivered that high-octane mech action that’s been missing from my rotation.
2025 has been a legendary run for gamers. It’s been a year of sequels that actually improved on the originals and remasters that respected the source material.
Gamers are less than 100 days away from the Oct. 2 launch of “Ghost of Yōtei” on PS5, and Sucker Punch Productions is set to offer an in-depth look at the upcoming open-world adventure.
A State of Play gameplay deep dive for “Ghost of Yōtei” will stream July 10, featuring nearly 20 minutes of gameplay. The presentation, hosted by Sucker Punch creative directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox, will offer a closer look at Atsu’s quest for vengeance, new weapons, new ways to personalize the journey at the edge of Japan, and new special modes.
The “Ghost of Yōtei” State of Play gameplay deep dive was initially announced during last month’s State of Play.
The stream will be available on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels at 2 p.m. PDT / 5 p.m. EDT / 10 p.m. BST / 11 p.m. CEST.
Get ready, PlayStation fans! Sucker Punch Productions, the acclaimed studio behind Ghost of Tsushima, has officially announced its next epic adventure: Ghost of Yōtei. Mark your calendars, as this highly anticipated title is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
While Ghost of Yōtei charts a new course with an unrelated story, Sucker Punch aims to deliver an experience that stands as a worthy follow-up to Jin Sakai’s journey. This time, players will step into the tabi boots of Atsu, a warrior driven by a deep-seated need for revenge.
A Tale Forged in Fire and Vengeance
The newly released “The Onryō’s List” trailer sets a grim stage. Sixteen years ago, in the rugged, untamed lands of Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), Atsu’s life was shattered. A ruthless gang known as the Yōtei Six murdered her family and left her for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree outside her home.
But Atsu survived. Honing her skills in combat and tracking over many years, she returns to her homeland with a singular purpose: to hunt down the six individuals responsible – The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and their leader, Lord Saito. Armed with the very katana used against her, Atsu begins her quest. However, Sucker Punch hints that her path will lead to more than just retribution, suggesting encounters with unexpected allies and the discovery of a new purpose amidst the ashes of her past.
Evolving the Open World
Sucker Punch is building upon the foundations laid by Ghost of Tsushima, promising an evolved open-world experience in Ghost of Yōtei. Players can expect even greater freedom and variety in how they explore the beautiful yet perilous landscape of Ezo.
Key gameplay enhancements include:
Player Choice: You decide the order in which to pursue the members of the Yōtei Six.
Expanded Activities: Track down dangerous bounties or seek out weapon masters (sensei) to learn new skills.
Dynamic Exploration: Ezo is filled with both unexpected dangers and peaceful moments, including returning activities from Tsushima.
Campfire System: Set up camp anywhere in the open world to rest and regroup.
Glimpses of the Past: A new mechanic allows players to experience fragments of Atsu’s memories, deepening the understanding of her loss and motivations.
The trailer offered glimpses of Ezo’s stunning scenery, Atsu’s new weaponry, potential allies, and the intriguing past-glimpse mechanic.
